Pu'u O'o: this June 27, 2014, lava began to emerge through cracks on the NE flank of the cone. These new vents vigorously feed a short channeled flow that reaches 1,500 m NE of Pu'u O'o around 11. - Photo HVO
On June 27, coinciding with a phenomenon of rapid deflation (the tiltmètre of the cone Pu'u O'o recorded a sharp decline of over 7 microradians), the floor of the crater began to collapse slowly and lava started coming out of cracks on the northern flank of Pu'u O'o cone. The upper part of the southern cone collapsed to 7am.
Webcams recorded active outlet of lava north of Pu'u O'o cone,and plumes of smoke, and multiple points of night glow at the exit points in Kahauale"a 2 flow extending over 7.1 km. NE of Pu'u O'o.
